Mimosa Pale

Born in 1980, lives and works in Berlin and Pori, Finland.

Mimosa Pale is a finnish sculptor, musical saw player and visual performance artist. She graduated with a Master of Fine Arts from the Helsinki Academy of Fine Arts 2008

Artist statement : "I make body related sculptures and performances, and a combination of these. My favourite working areas are streets or spaces outside the art context. My work is mainly site specific and intuitive. My special skills are playing the musical saw and making the porridge."

*the body is an instrument you have to play with

*a good dancer can dance in any space (Da Hoang/Zhou Brothers)

*A young artist should not be too critical with oneself (Maria Duncker)

*Aus der Not eine Tugend machen/ To make a virtue out of necessity

Her performance Vaccinium Vitis-Idaea is inspired by the finnish national epic Kalevala, the Marjatta myth, and the forest.  Lately Mimosa has been collaborating with noise artist Timo Kaukolampi (1971), and this collaboration transforms the performance also to a sound piece.
